Günther Jauch. He is the perennial whiz kid of the European entertainment industry. He knows how to combine humor with intelligence in order to keep TV audiences riveted to the screen.

He has created a new dimension in entertainment television. Today he is one of the most important and popular hosts in German speaking TV: Günther Jauch started his journalistic career in 1975 at the tender age of 19 as a journalist at RIAS Berlin Sportfunk. A year later he headed south to the sports department of Bavarian Radio (BR). He quickly made a name for himself with his quirky but informative reports from German sports resorts.

He made his first TV appearances in 1985 as a reporter for “Puzzle Flight“ on Bavarian television. He then became the host of the popular youth show ”Live from Alabama“ – which was actually in Bavaria. The ZDF (German TV Network) took notice of him and made him host of two successful shows (”So ein Zoff“ & ”Na siehste“). In 1990 he signed on with one of Germany’s leading private networks, RTL and became anchor of ”Stern TV“, which quickly became the most popular show of its kind (current affairs program) on German television. Eleven years later it is still No.1.

Two good reasons to be grateful. Günther Jauch surprised President Gorbachev by showing the Russian passports of his two adopted children.

However, one popular and critically acclaimed show was not enough for Günther Jauch, who in 2000 created a German version of the popular American quiz show ”Who wants to be a millionaire?”. The show has redefined TV success in the German speaking world. His unique way of dealing with the contestants as well as his keen sense of drama keeps over 12 million viewers riveted to their screen. Despite all his success, Günther Jauch has remained down to earth.
