At the beginning there was just a good idea: The best-selling author Georg Kindel (left with President Gorbachev) is the founder of The World Awards and the initiative Men's World Day.

He created the WORLD AWARDS to honor men who examplify the best attributes of mankind. Mikhail S. Gorbachev was so fascinated by the idea that he became the President of the WA and MWD.
The first annual World Awards were held in November 2000 at the Imperial Hofburg Palace in Vienna. Among the first were Simon Wiesenthal (b.l.) and José Carreras (2.f.r.). Today the International Jury which selects the laureates consists of more than 200 leading personalities, including Steven Spielberg, Jeremy Irons, Richard Branson, J. Craig Venter & Christopher Lee.

The media coverage of the annual World Awards is extensive.

In 2002, 310 journalists and 24 TV teams reported from the grand gala in Vienna

On October 22nd, 2003 the World Awards will be celebrated for the first time in Germany. The Musikhalle Hamburg will be the impressive location for the glittering event.
